Obituary for
Sylvia Austreng
Sylvia Edna Austreng, age 89, of Stevens Point, passed away on February 10th, 2015, at the House of Dove, Marshfield, Wisconsin. Services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1919 Wyatt Avenue, Stevens Point, at 11 AM Tuesday, February 17, 2015. The Rev. Rodger Moldenhauer will officiate. A public visitation for Sylvia will be held at Shuda Plover Funeral Home, Plover, Monday, February 16, 2015, from 4 PM until 7 PM and at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Burial will take place in North New Hope cemetery, Iola, in the spring.
Sylvia was born on March 18, 1925, to the late Emil Frederick and Josephine (Zahorka) Schade. She attended local schools and graduated from Abbottsford High School June 3, 1942.
She married Norman Ernest Austreng in Stevens Point, on February 26, 1946. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1959. Sylvia enjoyed clerking in grocery stores having worked at Milan Grocery, Olson’s Grocery of Amherst and Lila’s Grocery, Plover. Her interests included playing piano, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She had a comical sense of humor to the end.
Survivors include her seven children, Jerome (Arlene), Escondido, CA, Lester (Carol), Plover, Glenn (Margo), N. Fort Myers, FL, Norma Jean (Harry) Janick, Hagar City, James (Patty) and Stuart (Mary Kay) Plover, and Darrell, Stevens Point. 13 Grandchildren: Collin Austreng, Chad and Cory Austreng, Tina Wuske and Amy Rigby, Jason Janick and Sheila Stanczyk, Tony, Kelly and Becky Austreng, Kyle and Dylan Austreng and Amanda Austreng. 17 Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews, David Hoppa, Carol, Rosemarie and Donald.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Emil Fredrick and Josephine (Zahorka) Schade, husband, Norman, brother, Arthur Schade, and sister, Esther (Arnold) Hoppa, brother-in-law, Arnold Hoppa, sister-in-law, Sadie Schade. The family would like to thank St. Michael’s Hospital, Hospice and the House of Dove for their wonderful care.
