Dorothy Reeve
Dorothy Reeve age 93, passed away Thursday morning June 23, 2016 at The Atrium Living Facility in Stevens Point.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday June 27, 2016 at Higby-McQuiston Funeral Home in Aurora, NE. Visitation will be ftom 9:00 Monday morning until the time of services at the funeral home in NE. Shuda Funeral Services assisted the family locally.
Dorothy was born July 30, 1922 near Nelson, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Edward & Eva (Bartlett) Rausher. She attended Brown School through the 8th grade. She graduated from Nelson High School in 1940, where she took Normal Training and obtained her teaching certificate. She returned to teach Brown School for five years and one year at Grand Prairie.
She married Ross Reeve, June 18, 1943 in Kearney, Nebraska where she was attending college while Ross was serving in the Air Force. Later they farmed in Nuckolls County until 1960 when they moved to Aurora, Nebraska where they operated a dairy farm for 23 years.
In 1983 they retired from the farm and moved into Aurora. Dorothy worked in the dietary department of Hamilton Manor and Memorial Hospital for four years. She then retired to care for her husband. After his death, she spent many hours in volunteer work, entertaining at various nursing homes and organizations with music, readings and devotions. Dorothy loved her church and served in many capacities including United Methodist Women’s organization. She had been a member since 1944. She served as a district officer and was honored for various commitments.
She was a member of AARP and was awarded “Member of the Year” for her community work. She belonged to Extension Clubs for 40 years and was honored several times for her service and loyalty.
Dorothy loved gardening, canning fruit and vegetables, growing flowers and making quilts for her family. She was always ready for a game of cards or any other competitive game with family and friends.
Dorothy moved to Stevens Point, WI, in 2010 to be closer to her three sons and their families.
First and foremost was the love for her husband and family. To this union was born three sons; Larry (Kate) of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; Dennis (Tiffany) of Stevens Point, Wisconsin and Duane (Amy) of Richfield, Wisconsin. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Lori (Cliff) Taylor, Mike (Mandy) Reeve, Lance (Sarah) Reeve, Charlie (Jennifer) Reeve, Jennifer (Ryan) Maure, Joey (Ashley) Potoczky and six great-grandchildren; Megan & Ryan Taylor, Josie & Jamie Reeve and Ellie & Owen Maure.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ross, brothers Clare & Lloyd Rausher, sister Delcie Stowers, brothers-in-law Eldrick Grummert and Virgil Stowers, and sisters-in-law Edith and Ethel Rausher and nephews Craig Grummert and Bill Rausher.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to United Methodist Women's group and be sent to Larry, Dennis, Duane, or Higby Mortuary.
