Stanley was born May 21, 1917 in Sulejow, Poland; the son of Waclaw and Helena (Wojnielowicz) Major. He grew up in Poland and married Helena Lachowska in October 1939. The couple had a daughter Danuta who was born in 1940. Unfortunately, shortly after the couple married Stanley was captured by the Germans in World War II and was sent to Germany and forced to work on a farm until the War ended in 1945. The couple never reunited and Stanley moved to the United States after the war, settling with a family from Pennsylvania who sponsored his travel from Europe. In 1950 he moved to Chicago and worked in the stockyards. In Chicago he married Mary Iwaniec on November 10, 1951. The couple moved to Stevens Point in 1952 and began farming on the Eastside of Stevens Point. The couple had a daughter Margaret, and Stanley changed career paths when he began working at Joerns Furniture Company and retired from there as an inspector. Mary passed away in 1969 and Stanley remarried on March 22, 1974 to Stella Seymour, who passed in March 1990. Stanley enjoyed gardening, canning, and fishing. He was very proud to be Polish and to be a naturalized United States Citizen.
