Warren J. Lensmire
Warren J. Lensmire, age 96, of Stevens Point, Wis. peacefully passed away Saturday March 4, 2017 at his home in St. John, Florida.
A Mass of a Christian Burial will be held for Warren 11:00 AM Saturday March 18, 2017 at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish. Friends and family will gather at the church to share memories from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery. Shuda Funeral Services is assisting the family.
Warren was born October 31, 1920 in the Town of Cassel, Marathon County, WI, to John F. Sr. and Lillian {Cizek} Lensmire. He graduated from Marathon High School in 1938. Warren began his working career as a cheese maker in the family business at Cassel Garden Cheese Factory, Marathon Wis. Warren a 1950 graduate of WI State Teachers College earned his Bachelors of Education degree. He continued his education earning a Library Science and a Masters Degree in Administration & Supervision from the University of Wisconsin Madison. In 1940 Warren began his career teaching in a rural one room school house and in elementary and secondary schools in Wisconsin. Warren married Grace Kaiser June 14, 1944 at St. Johns Catholic Church, Edgar, WI. From 1955-1965 he was president of Wood County Teachers College, Wisconsin Rapids. He retired from University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, Professor Emeritus in 1985. Among Warren’s many awards he was most proud to receive the Supervisor of the Year Award, presented by the WI Association of Teachers.
Warren enjoyed 32 years of retirement spending winters in Florida. He loved to read, fish, garden, travel and sharing special time with his family & his faith.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years Grace, and their 5 children. Mary (Rod) Sobczak, Stevens Point; Paula Craig, Pagosa Springs, CO; Richard (Christina) Lensmire, Blue Grass, IA; Warren R. (Nancy) Lensmire, Ormond Beach, Fl; Lisa (Dan) Murman, St. Augustine, Fl. Eleven grandchildren and nineteen great-grand children. He also leaves behind sisters: Winifred Kaiser, Weston, WI; Joan (Lawrence) Wirkus, Edgar, WI; His brother: John JR. (Lynn) Lensmire, Marathon, WI. Sister-in-law: Alvina Lensmire, Marathon, WI;
Warren was preceded in death by his parents, brother Calvin, sister Mae Gliniecki, brothers in law, LeRoy Gliniecki, and Virgil Kaiser.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in Warrens Name.
