Obituary for Richard C. Wieczorek

Richard C. Wieczorek
Richard Chester Wieczorek of Rosholt died in the early morning of July 26th, 2017 at his home in Rosholt. Age 87, Richard was born on June 9th, 1930 in Rosholt. He was the son of the late Julian and Katherine (Pliska) Wieczorek.

Richard graduated from Rosholt High School in 1948, and worked at the family restaurant, The Coffee Cup, for many years. In 1951, Richard joined the Army, where he was a Private First Class, earning a National Defense Medal while stationed in Iceland during the Korean War. Upon returning to Rosholt in 1953, Richard spent time working in the family restaurant, and as a roofer for Firkus lumber, before settling into a twenty-five-year career as a Window Clerk at the Rosholt Post Office. He was a member of Saint Adalbert’s Church and a sixty-year member of the American Legion.

Richard enjoyed many hobbies including softball, bowling, horseshoes, ping-pong, watching sports, gardening, and keeping a neatly trimmed yard. Richard had his own horseshoe pits, and won many honors and trophies tossing horseshoes. He also excelled at ping-pong and patiently instructed young family members in the finer points of the game. Richard was an excellent gardener, delighting both friends and family with fine produce. His well-kept lawn and neatly-maintained woods were a welcoming gathering place for family and friends.

Surviving are Richard’s wife of thirty-one years, Barbara Jean (Nowak), and many nieces and nephews of several generations. A quiet yet feisty soul, Richard was a cherished member of his family and community; many will carry his memory in their hearts for years to come.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Stephan Wieczorek, Julian Wieczorek Jr., and Frank Wieczorek, and sisters Florence Kneusel, Josephine Boyer, Helen Boyer, and Alice Richardson.

According to his wishes, Richard will be cremated and have a brief interment ceremony with full Military Honors at 9:00AM Saturday September 2, 2017 at St. Adalbert’s cemetery during the Rosholt Fair.

Richard's family would like to give a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and Ministry Hospice - Stevens Point for their care and compassion.
