Obituary for Chong H. Jaggar

Chong H. Jaggar
The Jaggar family fondly remembers the life of Chong Jaggar (77, Nekoosa). Chong passed away unexpectedly on July 4, 2018, from injuries sustained in a car accident.

Born in South Korea in 1941 and orphaned at a young age, Chong developed a strong work ethic and a spirit of gratitude for the opportunity to rise above her circumstances. She carried these traits with her throughout her life and those who knew her best admired her independence and resilience.

In 1962, she met and married Donald Jaggar who was stationed in Korea as a sergeant in the United States Army. She immigrated to the United States shortly after and together they raised four children: Doug (Laurie), Gary, Jimmy (Tina), and Brenda (Curt Esqueda), who all survive her. Throughout the years, Chong and Don owned and managed several businesses together in Stevens Point and Plover. Perhaps the best known of these is the Riverbend Restaurant, which they operated from 1985-1993.

Chong is also survived by nine grandchildren: Matthew (Tina), Jesse, Rebecca (Adam Campbell), Mark (Sarah), Jaclyn Esqueda, Travis Flatoff (Kate), Ryan, Natasha (Tyler Monahan), and Aaron Esqueda (Tory), 16 great grandchildren, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Donald Jaggar (1937-2001), and her late-life partner of more than 20 years, Virgil “Pete” Saylor (1935-2017), both of whom she missed dearly.

She took great pride in her career as a restaurateur and cook and was still operating the Market Street Grill in Nekoosa at the time of her death. She loved getting together with friends for Korean feasts, cooking for her family, watching Korean dramas, hitting the jackpot at the casino, making and giving homemade gifts, and had recently taken up gardening.

An open visitation will be held on Monday, July 9, from 9:30-11:00 am, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am at Woodlands Church, 190 Hoover Avenue, Plover, Wis.
