Virginia (Ginny) Cable (Fischer)
Virginia Cable, age 86, of Stevens Point passed away July 13, 2017 at home. Ginny was born to Robert and Elynor (Dryton) Fischer on December 29, 1930 in St Louis, Missouri.
Ginny graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1949 and graduated from Central State School in 1953 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Geography, History and French. She married William J. Cable on August 29, 1952 in Stevens Point. Ginny taught English, Biology and Girl’s Physical Education at Iola School and was a substitute teacher throughout her lifetime. Additionally, Ginny enjoyed working at the University of Stevens Point book store. Ginny was an avid reader and enjoyed history. She loved gardening and traveling. Ginny greatly enjoyed summers at the family cottages at Pike Lake. She also had fond memories of moving the family to Morwell, Australia for two years in 1970. Ginny and Bill returned to Australia to teach for a semester abroad in 1994.
Ginny is survived by their 6 children: Debbie (Mark) Dean, Chesapeake, VA; Rebecca Cable , West Palm Beach, FL; Robert Cable, Stevens Point; Sara (Eric) Schiesser, Wind Lake, WI; Gina (Griffen) Erdman, Stevens Point; Martin Cable, Stevens Point. 9 grandchildren: Jessica, Katie, Scott, Devin, Robin, Elizabeth, Billy, Melissa, Alex; and one great grandson, Oliver. 2 sister-in-laws: Judy Anderson, Stevens Point; and Lois (Robert) Cable, Whiting. 1 brother-in-law; Richard Cable, Eau Claire. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William J. Cable, sister, Gwen Hagemann, Daughter-in-law, Winnie Cable, sister-in-law Marlene Cable, and brothers-in-law Dave Hagemann, John Anderson and Robert Cable.
Per her request no public services will be held. The family will hold a private ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the William J. Cable Scholarship fund at UWSP, Ministry Hospice or the Portage County Humane Society.
