Obituary for Vickie P. Thoreson

Vickie Paulette Thoreson, age 65, of Plover, WI passed away after a brave fight with lung cancer at her daughter’s home on Saturday, December 16th 2017.

Vickie was born on April 24, 1952 to Paul and Inez Reichel in Lovell, WY. She spent most of her childhood years in Wyoming, and moved to Marshfield, WI in 1975. She worked various jobs in order to support and provide a loving and stable life for her two daughters, Kelly and Lindsay.

On December 31st, 1984, she married the love of her life, Arnie Thoreson, at Christ Lutheran Church, in Marshfield, WI. Along with blending a wonderful family, Arnie and Vickie shared many years of golfing, dinners out with friends, lounging on their patio, cocktail hours and casino fun. They loved nothing more than to share a quiet night at home, grilling steaks and sharing a glass of wine.

Vickie was a kind and loving wife, mother and Mimi. She adored all four of their children and had a special bond with each of them. Vickie’s most treasured moments were with her husband Arnie, their children, and their families. She was a fabulous cook and loved preparing special menus to entertain family and friends.

Vickie and Arnie’s common love for the game of golf is what gave them countless hours of fun and memories as they traveled to play different courses with the dearest of friends. She may have told the story once or twice of the first time she beat Arnie at 18 holes. They had a sweet competition between them.

Vickie started her insurance career with Blue Cross Blue Shield in 1987. She was a successful professional who thrived in her field and earned many awards and accolades. In 2002, she joined M3 Insurance as a Senior Account Executive and later took an unprecedented role as a female partner. A close colleague and friend shared, “she was the best employee benefits client advisor and advocate I have ever known.”

She retired in March 2015 and became a devoted caretaker to her husband Arnie, who was battling cancer. He passed away in November, 2015. After she lost him, she found happiness and strength traveling with family and friends. Vickie felt very fortunate and secure having such wonderful neighbors in the last home they built together.

Vickie is survived by her 4 children; Kelly (Dave) Berlick, Appleton, WI; Aric (Liz) Thoreson, Sherwood, WI; Lindsay (Tom) Radle, Greenville, WI; Heidi (Aaron) Post, Chili, WI; 10 Grandchildren; Austin, Peyton, and Carson Berlick; Evan and Samuel Radle, Maddy, Ava and Emily Thoreson, and Briana and Justin Post, her sister Jenny (Barry) Vanderwall, MI, her sister Pauline (Ray) Barnett, FL, her brother James (Joyce) Reichel, TN, and her brother Fred (Dora) Reichel, WY. She was preceded in death by her parents, Inez Lell and Paul Reichel and her son Matthew (died in infancy).

Vickie’s family would like to thank many friends, doctors and nurses for their tremendous care, support and assistance during her battle with cancer. The Cancer Center at St. Elizabeth Hospital was a tremendous blessing to her and she loved her medical team.
