Matilda A. Rybicke (Tilly) was born in Hatley, WI, to Edward and Matilda (Kluck) Platta. At age four she moved to Milwaukee with her family where she attended Holy Assumption Grade School, Mercy High School, and graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1939. She served as an operator for Wisconsin Telephone Company. She married Myron Rybicke in June of 1942 at St. Rita’s Church in West Allis and moved to Stevens Point in 1944.

Tilly was a Catholic Daughter for 50 years, belonged to St. Peter’s Rosary Society for 30 years and volunteered at St. Michael’s Hospital for 18 years. She was a church lector and Eucharistic Minister for over 30 years and was an active member of Wine, Women, and Worship.

As receptionist for Drs. Gehin and Erickson, Tilly welcomed and assisted patients for 19 years. Later, she worked as a secretary at St. Michael’s Hospital as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents, by Myron, her husband of 72 years, her sisters: Marian and Veronica, her granddaughter, Annie, and her daughter-in-law, Gerry. She is survived by her daughter, Maureen Colin of Elmwood Park, IL; her son Dennis of Fort Atkinson; her grandchildren, Gretchen Eastman, Milwaukee; Sarah Winek, Wilmette, IL; Aaron Colin, (Alexandra) Wilmette, IL, and four great-grandchildren, Lillian, Beatrix, Penelope, and Eliza. She loved her family.

A Mass of Christian burial for Tilly will be held at St. Stephens Catholic Church Monday, April 8, 2019 at 11:00 AM, friends and family may call at the church from 9:00 AM until time of service. A request has been made for donations to charity in lieu of floral tributes. Shuda Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Obituaries usually do a pretty good job at conveying the chronological facts about one's life - focusing on the high lights, successes, and major 'events' of our short time here with others. However, they usually fall short on the impact the Person had on others. On Sept 26, 2014 Myron R. Rybicke left us, and April 1st, his loving, devoted partner of some 72 years (plus the 5 years since his passing), 96 year ol Matilda "Tily" Rybicke joined him.

It needs to communicated that Mr. and Mrs. "R" were two of the Stevens Point's finest people. They were committed to each other, their Christian Faith, and parenting. As to the latter, they were the very proud parents of Dennis and Mureeen, but along the way, others were informally 'adopted' into their family. I was fotunate enought to be one of those individuals. My inclusion was not of of necessity, as I was blessed with two amazing people I called 'Mom and Dad". Maybe some of us require more parenting that others. Anyway, from Myron I learned that being a man also involved gentle, unspoken support with a genuine warm smile. Tilly didn't tolerate fools well, and spoke her truth directly and without a honey glaze. This was an inportant reality check for a brash young teenager full of himself. I will be forever grateful for her presence in my life.

I suspect Myron and Tilly's modeling influence is conneted to why their real kids, Dennis and Maureen, grew up to be consumate, graduate teachers of distinction in their own right...literally having a positive impact on hundreds of students in Wisconsin and Illinois.

So, as I said, the oficial obituary usually falls short in reflecting the complete picture and some things just need to be said.

Maureen, Dennis & Rybicke family,
Sorry for your loss. Remember many entertaining evenings at your house with Paul Helbach & Bill Giese. These were of course hosted by those entertainers Myron & Tilly. So glad I was able to visit with Tilly after our last class of '66 reunion in Point. Tilly was a kind, faith-filled woman who practiced what she preached. Sincerely, Tom Elliott
