Obituary

Mary Ann Brezinski, 81, of Stevens Point, passed away Tuesday morning, June 9, 2021 at North Haven Assisted Living and Memory Care under the care of Compassus Hospice.

A Celebration of Life visitation for Mary Ann will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point.

Mary Ann was born September 16, 1939 in Plover, the daughter of Harold and Dorene (Robertson) Soik. She attended P. J. Jacobs High School where she was crowned Homecoming Queen and graduated in 1957. After graduation, she worked at Sentry Insurance. Mary Ann married Gerald Brezinski on January 24, 1961 in Stevens Point. She then started working as an Administrative Assistant for the Portage County Public Library in a career that spanned three decades and three library locations.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, her parents, Harold and Dorene Soik, and brother Ronald Soik.

Mary Ann is survived by her two children, Cheryl (Patrick) Ranfranz and Eric (Megan) Brezinski; grandchildren, Genna (Adam) Flynn, Henry Brezinski, Genevieve Brezinski; and great grandchildren, Emma Flynn and Micah Flynn. She is also survived by siblings, Margie Repinski, Rosalie Borchart, Bonnie Worzella, Peggy (Paul) Yates, Jerry (Barb) Soik, Jack (Janice) Soik and William Soik, and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann was a devoted and loyal wife and a loving, selfless mother. She stood by her man and would do anything for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary Ann was also a trustworthy best friend and confidante to many. She loved collecting Betty Boop memorabilia and vintage costume jewelry. She enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and local casinos with family and friends. She was so much more than words on a piece of paper.

Memorials may be given to Portage County Humane Society.

The family of Mary Ann wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at North Haven for their kindness and compassionate care, and the staff at Compassus Hospice for their support and care.

I was privileged to work with Mary Ann for about 25 years at both the Charles M. White Library and the Portage County Public Library. (She also worked at the Carnegie Library for a short period). She was always our "go-to person"..if Mary Ann didn't know what to do, or who to do it..no one did! She was a precious co-worker and friend to us and we shared many little trips to Birds in Art, antiquing and other festivities. My heart is heavy with sorrow for you Cheri and Eric and your families, and for her remaining family and friends as well. She will be deeply missed. ♥ Linda & Ron Kappell

I worked for many years with Mary Ann at the Portage County Public Library. She was always so helpful and professional. It was a sad day for all of us when she retired. We kept in touch with her through our library lunches and private dinners. She and I also did a few rummage sales together. The epitome of discretion, you could bear your soul to her and know it would go no further. She will be sorely missed by all her relatives and friends.
With deepest sympathy,
Rollene & Michael Marslender
