Obituary for Ronald Berna

Ronald J. Berna, age 77, of Stevens Point passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022 at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau surrounded by his loving family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Ron at 10AM on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church - 1709 Wyatt Avenue, Stevens Point, WI. Rev. Jeffrey Hennes will officiate. Burial with full Military Honors will be held at Guardian Angel Cemetery. Friends and family may gather to share memories from 4-6PM on Friday May 27, 2022 at Shuda Funeral Chapel - 3200 Stanley St. Stevens Point, WI. A General Rosary will be prayed at 6:00PM on Friday at the funeral chapel. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9-9:45AM at the church.

Ronald was born on June 16, 1944 in Stevens Point; the son of Raymond and Eleanor (Herek) Berna. Ron attended local schools in Stevens Point and graduated from PJ Jacob’s High School in 1963. Ron enlisted in the United States Air Force following high school until he was honorably discharged in 1969. On October 21, 1967 Ron married the love of his life Pauline Koback at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Stevens Point. Ron worked for the City of Stevens Point Street Department as a Heavy Machine Operator until his retirement in 2008.

Ron enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, hunting, picking berries, and enjoyed conversation with friends and neighbors. Ron had a heart of gold and enjoyed being Santa during the holidays. Ron was also a member of the American Legion Post 6 in Stevens Point.

Ron is survived by his wife: Pauline, 2 children: Amy (Scott) Zorn and Eric (Katie) Berna, 7 grandchildren: Ryan (Taylor) Zorn, Heidi (Brett) Rozek, Seth (Rachel Kieffer) Zorn, Tyler Berna, Kylene Berna, Emma Scott, and Eva Berna, 2 sisters: Barbara (Dan) LaPean and Annette (Mark) Houck. He is further survived by 3 brother-in-laws: Dennis Zywicki, Al (Cathy) Koback, and Danny Koback, and 4 sister-in-laws: Patsy (Pat) Hoffmann, Kathy (Bob) Reidinger, Donna (John) Gwidt, and Darlene Koback, his faithful companion and best friend his dog Oreo, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his father-in-law Harry and mother-in-law Delores Koback, sister Corrine Zywicki and brother-in-law Randy Koback.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
